Setting up your Aplio/Phone is easy! Simply follow the steps below.

1. Establish an Internet account
Choose an Internet Service Provider (ISP) from our list of Aplio Compatible ISPs or find one in your local "Yellow Pages". For more information about accessing the Internet, see the ISP Selection Guide. When you establish your account, your ISP will give you:
    • A local phone number to access the Internet
    • A 'User Name'
    • A 'Password'
You will need these in order to tell your Aplio/Phone how to access your Internet account.
2. Install your Aplio/Phone
Simply follow the directions below. If you have an answering machine, place it between your Aplio/Phone and your regular phone.

When you plug in your Aplio/Phone, the "Aplio" button will light briefly, followed 10 seconds later by a series of beeps. Check your phone to ensure that there is a dial tone.
For full installation information, see the Installation page in the Aplio/Phone User Guide.
3. Tell your Aplio/Phone how to access your Internet account
Use the buttons on your phone to give your Aplio/Phone the information it needs to access your Internet account. To do this you will have to convert the alphabetical information of your User Name and Password into numbers.

Along with the information you just converted, you'll also need the ISP type (usually '1') and your country code. You may find this information on our list of Aplio Compatible ISPs. If your ISP is not listed, use '1'. If your country is not listed, use the same country code you use for international dialing.

Now with the information in front of you, lift the receiver on your phone and press the button on your Aplio phone TWICE. Then listen to the voice instructions to enter your User Name, Password, ISP Type and Country Code.

4. Test the Aplio/Phone
You can test that everything is OK as follows:
    • Lift phone receiver.
    • Press the Eco-Config button twice, then press the Aplio button once
    • Wait for Aplio/Phone to tell you to hang up, then do so.
About 60 seconds later, your phone will ring you back and a recorded voice will tell you if everything is OK. If the test was unsuccessful, the voice prompt will give you an error message. Verify that you entered your Internet account information correctly. See the Problems and Solutions section of the User Guide for further information on error messages. If you continue to experience problems, contact Aplio support.
5. Make a call!

Dial the number as you would normally.

    • Make sure the answering party's Aplio/Phone is set up and attached to their phone.
    • When you're both ready, ONE PERSON should press the button on their Aplio/Phone. Usually, the caller will press the button.
    • When the recording asks you to hang up, do so.
    • When the phone rings (it takes about a minute to make the Internet connection), pick it up and talk for as long as you like, absolutely free!
Congratulations! You can now make free long distance phone calls with Aplio/Phone!
